A lot of Stuff at Once

Wow, the last time I posted was in February. My bad. Let's get re-acquainted shall we. How about we start in February.

And here...we...go!

February...

My buddy Matt moved to a new station in Chillwack...it sucked to see him go.

I booked my flight to Toronto for the 2009 Radio Marketing Bureau (RMB) Crystal Awards.

I went to watch the Habs vs Oilers and the Oilers won 7-2.

Steve Tambellini made some moves at the deadline and acquired Patrick O'Sullivan which was pretty awesome.

I flew to Vancouver for my Nephews first birthday and I got to hangout with my niece and nephew pretty much all weekend. I love those kids. My nephew has got long hockey hair and he looks awesome in a toque. I also got to spend time with my friends from BCIT. Its been way to long since we hung out.

March...

The Oiler season is deteriorating...win 2, lose 2 sorta deal.

I get a phone call from Wray Ellis from the RMB and he tells me (without telling me) that I have won gold in my category.

Crystal Awards

I fly to Toronto, I'm reminded why I don't like long flights...turbulance and the seats aren't spacious enough for someone whose over 6'0. Halfway through the flight my leg cramps up but I dont react cause people think the wrong things now when a brown guy yells on a plane. I have to give props to the pilot cause he made the most unbelievable landing with the heavy crosswinds.

The Crystal Awards happen during Canadian Music Week (CMW). The morning seminars were a lot of fun, I felt kind of weird sitting around all that talent though. It was a bit overwhelming at first, before you realize that all talent started off their careers in a similar way. I got to meet Jamie Watson, whose just an incredible voice talent and a pretty down to earth guy. He voices the kid animal in that Montana's commercial and also the voice of the comedy network.
There was also Terry O'Riley, from Pirate Radio, he's pretty awesome and he made my f****** day when he shut up a sales rep infront of about 70 people. Dan Price, from Oink Inc in New York was cool, he just didn't have a lot of answers for questions.

Off to the awards, my category "Best Small Market Ad" was the first category of the day. I was nervous and felt like puking. I don't know why I was nervous, I knew I was winning Gold, but I just had this feeling that it was some kind of sick joke. Anyways, I won GOLD! I threw up a little in my mouth when I got on stage. The lights were so bright they were burning my retina (here's a link to my speech if you're interested.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ATc_ycuJ0uE&feature=channel_page)

I saw Gene Simmons at my hotel (which was pretty much the greatest hotel I've ever been to) he had a hooker on his arm...at least she looked like a hooker. Either way, she was enough of a deterent for me not to get my picture taken with him.

Three people left my station in March. A Sales rep quit, a jock ran away and another good friend, Bill Halman, left to Whitehorse. That sucked.

Some other interesting stuff happened in March which I cant post about...aren't I just the worst?

April...

The month started off as a whirlwind. Thank GOD my creative director hired an awesome creative writer because he took a huge load of my shoulders.

With Bill and Matt leaving (the top two producers) and Sales always looking to get that extra dollar through "client value" I was forced to do a lot of my own prod because some clients weren't satisfied with the production of the other producers. That's not a shot at the current producers, it's just Matt and Bill set the benchmark so high coming off the crystal awards.

Oilers miss the playoffs...again. MacTavish is fired. My friend Tom, was so excited he jumped and his head was stuck in the roof for 14 hours before his roomate finally woke up and pulled him down. Tambo gives a very fresh and encouraging speech about the future of the organization and for the first time in a long time I have an actual renewed sense of confidence in the direction of the organization.

April ends in frustration as my weekends are non exsistant and I work 42 overtime hours in less than one month. The time that I use to come into the station as my enjoyment has turned into time that I am now expected to put in by the sales reps...well actually...not all of them.

May...

My friend Bik, accepted a position in Chetwynd and his last day was today. That makes 5 people gone in less than 3 months. My station responds by hiring a farmer. Hi 5. The guys a super nice guy, it's not his fault he can't produce. If he wants to get into radio and someone offers him a job, he'd be stupid to say no. I dont blame him.

The 09 NHL playoffs have been some of the best series I've seen in a long time. Every series in the 2nd round has been pretty entertaining. However, the Pens/Caps game 7 was pretty unexpected. Pens won 6-2.

Someone sent me into such a f****** rage today that I ran 15 laps at the Army and Navy field and I probably could have ran a few more if I wasnt so hungry. I haven't ran, played hockey or soccer in over a year. I'm out of shape. I ran 15 laps off pure rage.

Present Time...

Before I sign off...will Vancouver Canuck fans ever learn to shut up!? I'm not painting all of them with the same brush...but man...do you really want to put all the blame on Luongo? Luongo doesn't need me to watch his back, he's Roberto "I'm the Juggernaut Bitch!" Luongo...but I feel like he's being picked on. I'll share my views later.

Cheers...and have a goodnight.
